I am proud to serve on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This committee has broad jurisdiction over many aspects of government directly related to the everyday lives of Oklahomans, including health care, energy production and consumer safety.
The committee oversees departments including: the Departments of Energy, Health and Human Services, Commerce and Transportation. Our oversight also extends to the Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Trade Commission, Food and Drug Administration, and the Federal Communications Commission.
Within the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, I sit on the following three subcommittees:
Energy and Power: This subcommittee looks at oil and gas exploration, energy sector jobs, training and transportation. Additionally, this subcommittee has oversight over all utilities, ranging from coal-powered to alternative sources.
Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade: This subcommittee is responsible for more than just traditional manufacturing. We also work to protect people from data breaches, enhance online privacy and safeguard individuals and businesses from cyber attacks. The subcommittee also governs highway and transportation safety as well as vehicle standards.
Oversight and Investigations: On this subcommittee we look for areas of waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government. We have oversight of the full committee’s jurisdiction when it comes to implementation of laws that fall under the committee’s responsibility.
