2nd District Constitution Week Essay Forum
Our nation will celebrate Constitution Week 2013 on Sept. 17-23.
During the summer of 1787 delegates met in Philadelphia to draw up our constitution. Their work created the framework for the balance of power and the protection of individual freedoms. Constitution Week commemorates the formation and signing of our Constitution, which occurred on September 17, 1787.
We would like to invite middle school (6th-8th grade) and senior high (9th-12th grade) students from the 2nd District to participate in an essay forum about our U.S. Constitution. Public, private and homeschool students are invited to submit an essay on the relevance of our constitution. Please see the questions below:
Middle School Question: Is the Constitution still relevant today? Please explain your position.
Senior High Question: In your opinion, which right included in the Bill of Rights is the most important and why?
Three winners from both the middle school and senior high group will be selected by an independent panel of judges. Please use the entry form here for each entry submitted. This form can be photocopied. You should carefully read the rules by clicking here. Additionally, a master school list has been provided here. You may also contact any of our Muskogee office for information.
I look forward to reading the thoughtful and well-written responses from the students in the 2nd District. I also hope everyone will take time to read and learn more about our constitution. As citizens of this great nation, it is our responsibility to be knowledgeable about our rights and understand the role of government in our lives.
