Congressman Mullin Launches Constitution Week Essay Forum
MUSKOGEE – Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) today announced an essay forum focusing on the importance of our U.S. Constitution.
During the summer of 1787, delegates met in Philadelphia to draw up our Constitution. Their work created the framework for the balance of power and the protection of individual freedoms. Constitution Week commemorates the formation and signing of our Constitution, which occurred on September 17, 1787.
“I look forward to reading the thoughtful and well-written responses from the students in the 2nd District,” Mullin said. “I also hope everyone will take time to read and learn more about our constitution. As citizens of this great nation, it is our responsibility to be knowledgeable about our rights and understand the role of government in our lives.”
The essay forum is open to middle school (6th-8th grade) and senior high (9th-12th grade) students from the 2nd District. Public, private and homeschool students are invited to submit an essay on the relevance of the Constitution. All entries are due by 4:30 p.m. on September 23.
Three winners from both the middle school and senior high group will be selected by an independent panel of judges. Mullin said information has also been mailed to schools throughout the district. Rules and required forms are also available on his website, www.mullin.house.gov. Mullin encouraged anyone with questions to contact the Muskogee district office at (918) 687-2533.
