  • Cole and Mullin introduce Bill to Guard against Frivolous Lawsuits

    Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) and co-sponsor Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-02) today introduced legislation to protect gasoline can manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits. These companies are vulnerable to litigation due to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s failure to issue safety standards for their product. The bill would mandate safety standards so that gas can companies can obtain liability insurance to defend themselves against baseless lawsuits. Cole previously introduced the legislation last year.   • Mullin Introduces Bill to Reduce Obstacles for Wind Energy Production

    Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) introduced legislation to streamline federal requirements to build meteorological towers used to collect data that helps scientists approve or deny wind energy projects. The Reducing Regulatory Obstacles to Wind Energy Production Act, H.R. 1375 would streamline the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements on those meteorological towers used to collect the necessary data that help scientists accurately estimate local wind energy resources before going forward with onshore wind energy projects. Currently it can take up to two years to navigate the NEPA process to obtain a permit to build a meteorological tower. H.R. 1375 would reduce this time frame down to 30 days. Read more

    The nation’s debt is not being ignored by people across the Second District. We are not a wealthy district and people here work hard for their paychecks. They are frustrated by their federal government that tosses around millions and billions seemingly without much consideration. At a recent town hall meeting in Holdenville a resident spoke against continually raising the debt ceiling and said, “I am tired of paying taxes and them (Washington) wasting my money.” Read more
