Claremore, November 2, 2018 | comments

This week, Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) hosted an opioid conference to celebrate the signing of the federal opioid legislation, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act (H.R. 6).  The conference concluded a series of roundtables that Congressman Mullin has facilitated since 2016 and briefed the community on the new resources made available to them through the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act.

“When we started hosting opioid roundtables in 2016, Oklahoma’s communities, particularly right here in Claremore, stepped up to the plate,” said Mullin.  “At our first roundtable in Claremore, community leaders and representatives brought problems and ideas to the table.  Two years later, I am proud to say that together, we have found solutions at the federal level that will give our communities the resources they need to combat the crisis next door.”

FOX 23: “For two years, Congressman Markwayne Mullin has hosted roundtable meetings about the [opioid] epidemic.  From the roundtable to the Oval Office, Mullin helped form the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, signed by the president last week.”

“For two years we didn’t waste your time. For two years, we have a whole list of accomplishments that we were able to accomplish because you were persistent in being in these meetings and staying involved,” said Mullin.

Participants and speakers at the opioid conference included:

·         Leah Ledford, Admissions & Intake Coordinator, Tiger Mountain Recovery Center

·         Ryan Walker, Walgreens Healthcare Supervisor for the Tulsa area

·         Vonnie Hampel, National Association of Chain Drugstores (NACDS)
