FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 23rd 2013 – Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) announced Monday that Brooke Hunter, a sophomore from Tahlequah High School, won Best in Show from the 2nd District for the 2013 Congressional Art Competition.

“The judges commented that this year’s entries were very strong,” Mullin said. “It just goes to show how many talented students we have in the Second District.”

Wyandotte High School Senior Sydney Pierce won 2nd and 3rd Best in Show awards and a tuition waiver from Northeastern State University.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 and encourages artistic talent among the nation’s high school students. Winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol. Hunter won the right to have her artwork displayed at the Capitol and a ticket from Southwest Airlines to fly to Washington, D.C. Mullin said he takes great pride in showing the Second District’s art to everyone he takes by the display area.

The winners were announced Monday at an awards ceremony and reception held at Northeastern State University’s Muskogee campus. Mullin said there were 217 entries in the contest from 18 different schools throughout the Second District.
