Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-02) announced on Wednesday that farmers in LeFlore and Sequoyah counties may be eligible for federal disaster assistance.
On March 2, 2016, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Thomas Vilsack notified Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson that 13 counties in the state had received primary county disaster designations. Additional counties in Arkansas and neighboring states were designated continuous disaster counties and are also eligible for federal disaster assistance. In Oklahoma, LeFlore and Sequoyah counties received the designation.
Farmers who were impacted by severe rain and flooding between Nov. 1, 2015, and Jan. 12, 2016, may be eligible for assistance through several U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency programs, including emergency assistance for livestock, farm-raised fish, and forest restoration.
Farmers should contact their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices for more information or to apply for assistance. The LeFlore County FSA can be reached at 918-647-4800. The Sequoyah County FSA can be reached at 918-456-1924.
“This year, my teams on the ground in Oklahoma have been working with families, businesses, farmers, and ranchers to help them recover from the severe weather we have experienced. It’s hard to know where to turn after a storm, but we are always standing by to help anyone who needs information or assistance,” said Mullin.
Anyone who needs information on available disaster assistance can contact Mullin’s offices in Muskogee at 918-687-2533 or McAlester at 918-423-5951.
