Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) released the following statement after he was selected to sit on the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health on Monday. Congressman Greg Walden (OR-2) is the Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee. The Subcommittee on Health is chaired by Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D. (TX-26).
“I’m honored to have been selected to sit on the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health for the 115th Congress,” Mullin said. “As the representative for Oklahoma’s rural Second District, I have a firsthand understanding of the health concerns that people in rural communities face. As a member of the Health Subcommittee, I look forward to being Oklahoma’s voice as we repeal and replace President Obama’s broken healthcare law.”
“Markwayne has proven himself to be an important player on the Energy and Commerce Committee, and I look forward to continuing to work with him on the critical health care issues affecting our constituents,” Chairman Walden said. “From energy to Obamacare and beyond, there is no shortage of issues the committee will need to tackle. I’m excited to have Markwayne's conservative voice at the table fighting for real solutions."
“The Health Subcommittee will be well served with Congressman Mullin as a part of our team,” Chairman Burgess said. “Our subcommittee will have much to tackle this upcoming Congress, in particular the repealing and replacement of the Affordable Care Act. I have no doubt that Congressman Mullin will bring his knowledge of rural America to our subcommittee and be an extremely valuable member.”
Oklahoma is home to 157 hospitals, 36 of which reside in the Second District. The healthcare industry serves as the second largest employer in Oklahoma, second only to the energy industry. Congressman Mullin is the only Member of Congress from Oklahoma to sit on an authorizing committee with jurisdiction over healthcare legislation.
Congressman Mullin will also continue to serve on the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection and the Subcommittee on Energy.
