The Freedom of Our Future

Every four years, the United States holds a presidential inauguration to formally declare the President of the United States.  On January 20th, I witnessed the swearing in of President Donald Trump in as our 45th President of the United States.  During the historic day, I was reminded of one of my favorite president’s inaugural address in 1905.

At his first and only inaugural address, President Teddy Roosevelt said: “Much has been given us, and much will rightfully be expected from us. We have duties to others and duties to ourselves; and we can shirk neither.”

This sentiment holds true for our country and all of its elected officials during this transformational time in our nation’s history.  As a Member of Congress, I have a duty to represent the people of my district in Oklahoma – just as President Trump is responsible for making decisions on behalf of the entire nation.  It is my job to uphold the Constitution and serve the people of my district, and I can assure you it is not a responsibility I take lightly.

In the same speech, President Teddy Roosevelt said that “under a free government a mighty people can thrive best.  As Americans, we’re known for our unwavering patriotism and dedication to our nation.  Our nation also boasts an unparalleled number of freedoms.  Our patriotism and our freedoms are what make America arguably the mightiest country in the world.

Since being elected to Congress in 2012, I’ve been fighting an uphill battle against federal government overreach.  Oklahomans are faced with more burdensome regulations, fewer job opportunities, less freedoms, and higher operating costs for businesses.  Simply put, Oklahoma isn’t better off today than it was eight years ago.

Beginning January 20, 2017, we have the opportunity to give Americans the chance to be freer, the chance to be heard, and the chance to be more successful.  Working with the incoming administration, Congress is going to work to repeal and replace Obamacare, reduce the regulatory burden on businesses, reform the tax code to make it easier to do your taxes, secure our border, rebuild our infrastructure, and strengthen our military.

Just as my duty is to Oklahoma, President Trump has a duty to the American people.  I’m looking forward to working with the president and his administration to achieve our goals to make Oklahoma, along with our entire country, more prosperous, more free, and far better off than it is today.
