HEAT Leaders Applaud Federal Judge for Overturning Biden Decision Blocking Oil and Gas Leasing

Today, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and HEAT Co-Chairs Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) and Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) released the following statements after a U.S. district judge on Tuesday blocked the Biden Administration from suspending new oil and gas leases on federal land and water.

“Today’s decision striking down President Biden’s illegal ban on energy leases by a federal judge underscores what we already know — President Biden doesn’t have the authority to ban oil and gas leasing in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Whip Scalise“President Biden’s decision to ban new leasing has already done serious damage to the economic livelihoods of millions of American families, and I’m glad to see the ruling today blocking the Biden Administration from continuing their anti-American-energy leasing ban. Energy made in America creates jobs, lowers the cost of gas and electricity for all hard-working families and small businesses, and helps America’s allies across the world. Additionally, these leases bring critical dollars for coastal restoration, flood protection, education and countless other important services in the states that support these activities. I also applaud Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry for filing this lawsuit and arguing on behalf of thousands of energy workers.”

"I am pleased with the U.S. District Judge’s decision to uphold the rule of law and block President Biden’s overreaching halt on new oil and gas leases," said Rep. Duncan"President Biden continues to exceed his executive authority to undercut U.S. energy production at the behest of the radical environmental left. This decision is a win for the Constitution, thousands of oil and gas workers, and American energy consumers."

“This is great news for the American energy industry and the American people. President Biden’s Executive Order suspending new oil and gas leases on federal land and water is a disaster," said Rep. Mullin"It has not only caused prices to go up for consumers, but also has forced us to rely on foreign oil to meet our energy needs. We have an abundance of energy resources right here at home and we should be utilizing them in an all-of-the-above energy strategy.”
