Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-02) highlighted the need for research and data collection to combat the high stillbirth rate in the United States during a House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee hearing today. The United States is ranked 25th in number of stillbirths per capita out of 49 high-income countries, with nearly 21,500 babies stillborn in 2019.
Video of Mullin’s remarks can be found here.Last week, Mullin introduced H.R. 5487, the Stillbirth Health Improvement and Education (SHINE) for Autumn Act, which aims to lower the U.S. stillbirth rate by providing critical resources to state and federal health departments, improving data collection, and increasing education and awareness around the issue of stillbirth in the United States.
