Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-02) released the following statement following tonight’s votes in the U.S. House of Representatives. 

Mullin voted yes on H.R. 6968, the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act and Security Division 1 of H.R. 2471, the Consolidated Appropriations Act. 

“This ban on Russian crude oil and petroleum imports is long overdue,” Mullin said. “While the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act is incomplete without support for our domestic producers, it’s a step in the right direction. A dictator like Putin should never have leverage over America and we certainly should not be funding his war. If we were energy independent, we wouldn’t be in this position in the first place.”

“Further, it is critical we fully fund our military and provide this aid to Ukraine,” Mullin continued. “If the crisis in Ukraine has shown us anything, it’s that we must prioritize defense to protect our freedoms and democracy. We should be offering Ukraine our full support, and right now, this is the best way to do it. While Putin is senselessly bombing maternity wards and civilian airports, it’s more essential than ever we authorize effective aid to the Ukrainian people.”

Mullin voted no on the Non-Security Division 2 of H.R. 2471, the Consolidated Appropriations Act.

“If Congress is going to pass a $1.5 trillion spending package, I want to know exactly what’s in it,” Mullin said. “In typical Democrat fashion, the full text of the 2,700-page bill was released in the middle of the night, giving no time for lawmakers to read it. It makes you wonder what socialist priorities the Democrats are hiding. We are elected to Congress to be stewards of taxpayers’ dollars. The American people deserve better than this.”
