Biden’s Open Invitation to the World

President Biden’s open border polices have incentivized lawlessness and created chaos, not only in border communities, but also across the entire United States. Despite the record-breaking increase of migrant encounters and ever-growing threat to American lives, President Biden continues to turn his back on this crisis.

There have been over 2.75 million migrant encounters at our southern border since President Biden took office. These are not simply migrants seeking asylum, there are criminals with weapons, drugs, and trafficked persons that are arriving. This is not just an immigration issue, but a matter of national security.

Of these run-ins, over 700,000 known “gotaways” have evaded CBP apprehension and entered the U.S., and over 40 known or suspected terrorists have been caught trying to do the same. These are only the ones accounted for.

In the first five months of this year, CBP seized more than 6,601 pounds of deadly fentanyl and fentanyl analogues. This is enough to kill more than 2.4 billion people. Unfortunately, our nation has already experienced the dangerous consequences of this reality as drug overdose-deaths in 2021 topped 100,000 for the first time ever in a calendar year. There is no question this was fueled by drug trafficking at our southern border.

I want to take a moment to extend my gratitude to our CBP agents who are working tirelessly to defend the homeland. It is clear they are understaffed and overworked, as they continue in their commitment without support from their Commander in Chief. I am also grateful for the Trump-appointed federal judge in Florida who blocked the repeal of Title 42 – one of the last lines of defense our agents have against a flood of illegal traffic into this Republic.

Despite the dedication of our border patrol agents, manpower is not enough. We must finish the wall to truly secure the southern border. There is a quarter of a billion dollars’ worth of steel currently rotting away in the elements meant for this very effort.

America is nation of laws, and our laws must be enforced. Our country has always thrived as a nation of freedom and opportunity, but in order to maintain our freedom and protect that opportunity, we must first enforce the laws that ensure the safety of our people.
