Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) voted today in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2018, which authorizes a 2.4% pay raise for service members.

“Providing ample support for our men and women in uniform is a fundamental role of Congress,” said Mullin.  “I’m proud to support our troops both at home and abroad by supplying our military with the tools and resources they need to be successful.  For eight years under the Obama Administration, our military was forced to do more with less while facing increasingly complex and dangerous assignments in the field.  Today, we set a higher standard for our military and its preparedness.  The FY18 NDAA rebuilds our military’s technology and strength so that when our service members go into harm’s way, they are well-equipped to handle anything they encounter.”

“In addition, this legislation arms our troops with the biggest pay raise in eight years,” said Mullin.  “The men and women who serve our country deserve our endless gratitude for their sacrifice.  Their unwavering commitment to our country warrants a raise.”

The NDAA’s 2.4% pay raise for our men and women in uniform is the biggest pay raise for our troops in eight years.  Additionally, the legislation increases the overall topline funding, adds additional troops to our Armed Forces, and invests in new technology to help the United States confront conflicts around the globe.  The bill also includes language that extends Congressman Mullin’s DOD Workforce Flexibility Act through Fiscal Year 2021.  The DOD Workforce Flexibility Act gives flexibility in the hiring process for installations with a civilian workforce, like the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant.

In July, the House passed its version of the FY18 NDAA by a vote of 344 – 81.  The Conference Report to Accompany H.R. 2810, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018, passed the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support by a vote of 356 – 70.
