Mullin Applauds Increased Reimbursements for Veterans’ Health Care
Congressman Mullin praised the change in policy put forth by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) today which will allow veterans to be retroactively reimbursed for emergency treatment at non-VA facilities.
“There is no quick fix to solve all of the issues inside the VA,” said Mullin. “However, we must continue to take steps forward to improve care for our veterans. This commonsense revision is one such step. I’m grateful to the VA for making these changes and bringing our country one step closer to providing every single veteran with the quality health care they both need and deserve.”
The VA will begin processing claims for reimbursement of reasonable costs that were only partially paid by the Veteran’s other health insurance. Those costs may include hospital charges, professional fees and emergency transportation, such as ambulances. The VA will apply the updated regulations to claims pending with the VA on or after April 8, 2016, and to new claims.
